Green Mountain Boys on the trail

Members of the Vermont National Guard’s 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) embark on a four-day hike along Vermont’s Long Trail last week. The hike included a stop on Sept. 11 atop Mount Mansfield for a reflection ceremony to commemorate the 2001 terrorist attacks. "We are committed to making sure that we never forget our fallen, the ones that paid the ultimate sacrifice, and today is the day, as we look upon the Green Mountains here amongst the fog, but it's something that the brigade has taken seriously as one of the most deployed states in the country. and we’ll never forget our fallen soldiers.” Brig. Gen. Michael T. Heston, Assistant Adjutant General-Army, said during the ceremony. | CONTRIBUTED
